Section 4
Pre-Installation Check
Andrew requires pretesting actuators on the ground prior to installation using
the Andrew portable controller and the latest version of the controller software
(available online at www.andrew.com. Go to Products→Antennas→Teletilt®
RET System). This will verify proper actuator functionality and also ensure
that the latest available actuator fi rmware release is installed on the actuator.
Failure to conduct pre-test and pre-installation procedures defi ned by Andrew
will void warranty.
Suggested steps for checking RET equipment while on the ground:
1. Record antenna serial number and actuator serial number(s) for each antenna. (For antennas
with multiple actuators, document frequency band and position of each actuator.)
2. Record sector and position for each antenna and actuator.
Note that Andrew offers a workpad (ATFK-Confi g Pad) for recording the information in steps 1
and 2 (Figure 4-1 on the next page). The workpad can be downloaded from the Andrew Solutions
website.
3. Connect all equipment together per RET confi guration plan for the site. (In the long run, this
may be faster than testing components individually.) A short section of coax cable could be
used for systems with smart bias tees.
Note that the controller should be turned off before any connections are made.
Note that all connections are waterproof and that connections should only be hand-tight
(0.5–0.7 Nm or 0.36–0.51 ft-lbs). Over-torquing connectors can destroy connectivity to pins.
4. Use a controller to scan for devices and adjust tilt.
If all devices are found, the equipment is ready for installation. If there is a failure, see Sections 5
and 6.
